Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings launched an Oil & Gas app to provide users with protective coatings recommendations best suited to extend the lifecycle of assets in refineries and shale drilling sites, such as frac tanks, pipelines, cooling towers and rail tank cars. The app is optimized for both iOS and Android.

“The Oil and Gas App will allow customers to get expert recommendations on the coatings and linings that provide performance in the harshest and most extreme service conditions, with just the touch of a button,” said Ron Knecht, Regional Market Director Oil & Gas North America, Protective & Marine Coatings at Sherwin-Williams. “From upstream to downstream, Sherwin-Williams has the solutions you need for corrosive environments, and this new app makes it easy to find them. No other coatings manufacturer has an app designed to walk owners and maintenance managers through the coatings selection process on the go.”

The home screen allows the user to select information about different locations within a refinery or a shale drilling site. Once the site type has been chosen, the screen will prompt users to select which asset within the refinery or drilling site needs the protective coating. The app then recommends the coating system that would be most beneficial.

The recommendation includes the recommended coating system and/or primer, DFT (mils) for each coat, total dry mils and coating attributes. Clicking on a product name brings up a detailed product data sheet, which highlights benefits and application specifications for that particular coating.

The app is the second offering of the Sherwin-Williams Protective &Marine Coatings mobile application line, preceded by the SeaGuard app which provides coating recommendations for marine vessels.
